I’m going to be building a 2000 gallon plywood aquarium. I’m putting it on a stand that will be around 3-4ft high. For the stand I’m planning on using square tubing and would like some input on size of tubing, thickness, and how many post. The dimensions of the tank are 12’x7’x4’. For the stand I want the dimensions to be 10’x6’ so I can have a two foot overhang on one end(for filtration and equipment to store underneath) and a one ft overhang out the front so it can sit inside the wall nicely. For the tank build I’m leaning towards doing stacked 2x4 build and for glass I have two 6’ pieces of 3/4” glass. Any info would be appreciated thank you

2”x1/8” thickness box tube should b more than fine for a “normal stand”. Can build just about any stand with that even in 1”. Personally i dont like the idea of ur overhangs. If it were me id fully support the bottom. At the least ur going to need 2”x3/16” and that is just a guess as i only build stands that fully support tanks.
Egon Egon has the only setup that comes to mind with a tank that overhangs on a steel stand…im sure hed b happy to share what the material is for u 💀🤙.

Hey fellas. Thanks for the replies. The stand will still support the full aquarium (I think) I have attached a picture of my plan for the stand lol. Maybe the overhang isn’t a great idea either. I had also thought of making the top out of 4x2x1/4” tubing to help with strength for the overhang.

Yes the stand I had built is very strong. I’m not worried about it at all. I needed it to over hang the sump on one side.

It’s 2” square stock that’s 3/16” thick. You can see I use plywood then styrofoam on too of the stand. That just distributes the weight of the tank evenly. It’s not structural.
