Are we allowed to paint on the pumpkins as well to accent the carving? Or just carving only?

I'm not sure if this has been asked yet, But what if we made the template ourselves and thus is still an original work? Are we aloud to show off our work before the contest?

a homemade template is fine. The entries should be kept private for fairness of judging
