If my JD ever gets like that I'll be very happy-really nice old school cichlids.
Only thought is you might want to upgrade the filters-considered an external? Also if you got a good background that tank would be BAD ASS.
Well done mate!
JD's are one of my favourites. The male is quite huge and I hope it'll grow bigger. He's a real bulker ... eats a 10" earthworm in no time (in 20 mins there's no sign of the great "snake"). Also .. the JD's are the omega fish in my tank... but I guess soon the female Jag is going to take over. She is already slightly bigger than the male JD. The filtration is a little bit complicated. The tank is on the floor ... no furniture for it so ... until I'll handle that ... I can't use any canister filter (the canister filter has to be some good inches below the water level ... and any apropriate filter is too big to use ... ). But I'm preparing to replace one of the internal filters ... I'll use 2 Fluval 4 Plus and a BluWave 09. I'm gonna put some bigger plants ... these sword plants aren't growing at all so I'm gonna move some bigger ones from my 100 gals. Also .. I'll have to put some background to the tank ... so u don't see my bathroom's walls . I was thinking about a mirror ... but my fish might attack the glass and that could complicate things. I am very busy and unfortunately I can't take care of my fish as much as I would like to. I appreciate your kind words and hope to show you some new photos with my redecorated tank soon. Cheers.
Yeah ... it's on the floor. I hurried a little .. to get it and didn't think to much to the other needs. That's the reason I can't use a proper canister filter... but internal filtration works fine .... as long as my fish are growing healthy ... some "unwanted decor" cannot spoil my excitement. My Jag is growing very fast every week and so does my male GT. I wolud like to purchase another Star ... custom one ... around 90" long and the same depth and height (around 250 gals) as mine ... so only longer... and put my female Jag there .. and get a male for her ... so they lay some eggs. Of course I'm not ready yet for this arrangement ... I'm affraid that the budget allocated this year for fishkeeping is limited... I'm tuning my car a little bit.
Hope to post some new pics soon. Cheers.
I was saying you have two male JD's bro...lol I have JD's but that is not what I meant...Hope that clears it up...Can you show some close side shots of the female that I think is a male? Thanks man...
No no ... that's a pair. I have bred JD's for some time. I know how to sex them and I know what I've got. They also display courtship behaviour and the female has chosen a spot to clean and lay on. The only problem is that the male is not yet interested. He's quite big (soon he's gonna max out) and he is in for the big chicks. Before her ... I had a slightly smaller female but he decided he can't form a pair with her because of her small size ... so bamm ... she killed her. And she was so eager to mate .... she became all black .... and tried to lure the male to her chosen flat stone .... Hope this one is going to stay alive. They're together for some time .. That's the problem with my JD... the male is the meanest fish in the tank ... only the Jag can fend for himself and Chitala can sometimes cope with his attacks ... Fortunately they'll outgrow him for good .... and things'll get more balanced.
I'll show you some pics of them ... I know the female has a more prounounced bump in the forehead which is a masculin caracteristique but she's definitely a female.
Some new stuff as I promissed. Not yet finisehed the redecoration. Got rid of the big Liposarcus and moved the Joselimaianus from the 100 gals. Feel free to comment and share ideas. New pics comin' soon with an improved appearance and meaner, bulkier and more evil fish.
