TOURNAMENT GOALS
The team at Whackfactor Outdoors created the Potomac Snakehead Tournament to achieve the following goals:

  • Promote the sport fishing of snakeheads to reduce the population of these fish in the Potomac and its tributaries.
  • Raise public awareness of snakeheads as a high quality, commercially viable, food source.
  • Support the Maryland Department of Natural Resources in its efforts to combat invasive species throughout the Potomac River watershed.

F catching the things! I am interested as heck in Chad Wells part in this Tournement!

Please let us know how "snakehead" tastes (to the American t-buds)! I know that the Asians think that this is amoung the greatest delicasy swimming!

Same was said of "Korean Ray/ Skate wing". Damn that sucked the royal wind out the rump IMO. I don't see how people eat "Cartilage" like it was "food" or sumething. YUCK!

I mean no offense to Asians tastes either. I ADORE a huge percentage of the asian cuisine that I have tasted. There is a definate variance in tastes and am curious from an American standpoint.

Also, Please push to make this fish "commercially available in the US fish markets if it is indeed excellent eating. Oh sorry I forgot that these are SUPERFISH! Even dead, fileted Snakehead can get up out of the freezer and walk to the next waterway to become an "invasive"!

LOL

I wrote to Austin Murphey and am awaiting a replay as to if the taste testing is open to non-contestants and if so what the admission is for spectators. I also inquired as to whether the Snakehead meat from the catches would be made available for the public to purchase.

My stomach is growling and mouth watering to chow down on Snakehead!!!

I'll let everyone know.

Is the Potomac "clean" enough to eat fish caught from?

I've heard that snakehead has a firm white flesh that is not "fishy" tasting at all. I would love to try it.

I did promise that I would let everyone know, so I decided to log back into MFK.

Austin Murphy got back with me. I will probably get my boat ready this week and actually participate, but for those not interested in actually fishing, here is Austins' response: (Applies to all!)

Hi Lee,

Feel free to drop in and taste some invasive species. We will have snakeheads and plenty of blue catfish.

There is no charge for the tasting.

Thanks very much for your interest.
