worlds not gonna end, thats that.
mayans didnt even predict the end of the world. just a "new age", nothing apocalyptic.
will watch the stars and whatnot if it looks cool
plain, simple and true

I'll definitely be watching...cool site to see any way you look at it

I hope we don't die in 2012. I won't even let myself watch the movie because I will be all freaked out until 2013 lol. I hope I get to see the planets though, that would be cool!

LOL

Never let the facts get in the way of a good story…

You may have heard a lot about future planetary alignments, including rumors about 12/21/2012 when some say the world is going to end, and there will be a planetary alignment. That is all it is, a rumor. There will be no planetary alignment in 2012. Many of the planets will align in a rather straight line in 2010. On June 13, 2010, Uranus, Jupiter , and Mercury will be lined up on one side of the Sun while Venus, Mars, and Saturn will be lined up on the other side. Earth will be perpendicular to the Sun at this time. In September of the year 2040, four of the planets – Saturn, Venus, Jupiter, and Mars – will be roughly aligned when seen from Earth. Check out when other planetary alignments will happen, and then search for them in the sky.
Check out this site about planetary alignments and this site, which shows you the position of the planets for any date you enter.
Universe Today has a number of articles to read including galactic alignment and planets line up.
Astronomy Cast has an episode about planetary alignment.

^ ya right...they just don't want everyone at their favorite watching spot:ROFL:

How does one watch ALL the planets align anyways? :screwy:

2012 is not a planetary alignment so much as an era of galactic alignment. This event happens around every 26000 years (but that's from like 1980-2016, not 2012 specifically). It's not a big deal, just a cool little thing that we get to see. All that means is that the earth and sun line up with approximately the middle of the milky way galaxy (and really, that's just a best guess).

The Maya left behind many texts, but most were destroyed and burned. There are 4 manuscripts (I think) that are left over, and not one of them mentions the destruction of the earth.

The idea of the Apocalypse is a westernized idea... just like vampires. It's silly to invest any time or effort in the idea that somehow, the date for the destruction of the earth is going to happen, and was somehow predicted by a group of central american natives.

TBH, I'd much rather believe in something cooler... like Dawn of the Dead. I could dig on some zombies.
