2023: How old will your oldest fish be?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Definitely depends on where you live, but overall yeah a relatively common fish, but there is the Southern spotted and Northern, very hard to tell difference and I presume I have the one that isn't near extinct in the wild.
There's way more species than just Mogurnda mogurnda and adspersa.
There is a bunch of species, there’s quite a few in central Australia such as civicola.
There is tonnes of species over in PNG

Chris Lamin is to thank for the saving of purple spotted gudgeons in the Murray. What she does is incredible. Look her up at Middle creek Farm.

this was my last group. I have probably kept and spawned more species of sleepers than anyone. These are my all time favorite family of fish.

Sick list man! I'd love to get some of the Fatties and Marbleds but they are illegal down here in AUS.
I'll try and find some photos and I might have some videos floating around.
Some nice spawns.
I've spawned the following
Peacock Gudgeon
Western Carp Gudgeon
Empire Gudgeon
Northern Purple Spotted Gudgeon
Southern Purple spotted gudgeon
i was planning on spawning the Small eyed gudgeons, but my female died, so now I just have my Male.
Gudgeons are really hard to raise. Some species have fry smaller than rainbowfish!

Yea I have a few species I would love to keep but the fish game is whack these days nothing available or when they are they are way overpriced. Gudgeon are easy for me the fry will eat normal fry fish food, my Marble Goby fry are maybe half the size of Peacock Gudgeon fry and they will not eat prepared foods at all took me a long time to figure out how to feed and keep them alive
Marble Goby fry are tiny here are some hatching.

I find it interesting how the niches of Australia are dominated by gobies, perch, and rainbows.

these Marble Goby fry are tiny. I have a few young ones growing out so I might do some more breeding since I have so much fish space but not much interest anymore.

There's actually places in the Qld section of the Murry Darling Basin where Southern Purple Spotted Gudgeons are abundant and are allowed to be collected, I'm thinking of turning my summer Guppy tub into a pond for the Purple Spots.
