So am trying hard to clear out my 20g tank, as the current stock, is the most boring I've come across LOL, its got 3 peacock spiney eels, which apart from needing a larger tank don't do anything, so am selling em off.

So does anyone have any ideas for a 20g? needs to be freshwater, and I prefer single fish with more personality, or something at least a bit oddball about them, can upgrade to a 3 foot within a year as well. Doesn't ahve to be monster, just interesting or something that'd interact like cichlids do.

Its a 20g tall...

Rams? I have a 20 tall and I haven't really found anything cool to put in there yet. For small tanks I've always preferred small planted communities.

Two ideas I've got so far is either a convict or a CAE, I've always liked CAE's but the fact they eat slimecoats has always put me off, but if it lived in solitary I should be able to grow it out to a decent size.

I don't like Bettas, their pretty and all, their just too... little LOL. Havent come across pike killifish before, so their probs not avilable, rams are an idea, though their pretty expensive.

How about a pair of Jewels..?

Id do a pair of convicts myself....youll have a ton of fry tho :P There are several smaller species of piranha that prefer solitude, and stay relatively small. Since you say you can upgrade to a 3ft tank, have you considered a Severum?

LOL I live in Aus, Piranhas are definitely not avilable, it'd be awesome if they were though.

Don't wnat fry, even with the relative rarity of convicts round here, I don't particularly like the idea of being overun with fish, and I prefer not to use them as feeders.

A sev might work, what are they like? from what I've read their really peaceful? do they ahve personality?

They arnt to intresting as babies, but when they get older and grown...they as most chichlids become downright pets. Mine has every bit the personality as an oscar, but nah they arnt really a particularly aggressive species. There are alot of smaller cichlids that would do well...Firemouths are usually kind of common, altho not really that small a Jack Dempsey would do well expecially when you upgraded. Depending on what the other dimmensions were to a 3ft tank you could do a Red Devil or a single Oscar.
