Is the lighting for the 20L?

Those stores usually carry Aquarium and Plant grow florescent bulbs. They're cheaper that lfs.

If it's for a bigger tank and you have a glass top on your tank, you can use the cheap 2 bulb shop lights w/reflectors. I've put mylar on the reflectors for better light output, but it's not necessary.

Glass does stop some of the light spectrum, but you have to balance that eith fixture cost. To do without a glass top you have to use special sealed fixture ends.

If your growing coral/live rock, that's a whole different story. You need an incredible amount of light.

I'm thinking about making a canopy for the 20L. I might put a strip light in the front and then some daylight medal haligen bulbs from lowes in the back. Think that will work? I have a glass top, but I might make one out of the polycarbonate if I make a canopy. I need to check the angle of refraction on the two. I think I might use no top if I put the lights in the canopy about 6 inches off the surface. Oh, I plan to have some live rock in there just to let you know. think all that would work?

aint polycarbonate like 7x stronger than standard acrylic? should work especially if its 1/4 inch, i believe 5500k is the rating for standard florescent daylight bulbs, they can work for a refuguim but it may not work for a SW reef.

im not an expert on this so i cant really say, 10,000k bulbs and actinic are the best to go with as far as tank lighting. if you got some kind of hood, you can use the T-5 lighting made by CommodityAxis(Via Aqua)
