im using seachem's phosguard... it didnt say anything about removing the carbon but I'll check again... should i do it anyway? and do the lights need to be off or should i leave them on and see if that works?
 
turn the lights off, corals should be fine. Without the light it starves the cyano. and so does the phosphate remover.

You don't have to take out the carbon, i didn't.

You might want to get some big snails too, they act like a vaccum and get what the removers don't. they cleaned my rock cleaner than i have ever seen it.

sweet... i shut the light off and I'll check it each day until it looks all gone... will nassarius snails do the trick of removing it? they remove everything else thats dead in there...
