Here's a picture of a trout my brother caught. Biggest one he has caught so far.

too bad they're dead :)
We as fishermen need to learn to release fish. If you fish more than once a week i sure hope your relesing the majority of em. Fish dont belong in the freezer. Eat em fresh or let em go.
Release ALL wild fish!

Not to start anything up but its ironic saying "release all wild fish" in a fish keeping forum where I'm sure many are wild caught.

maybe the trouts are stocked and not wild.

They look like stockers....but thats not the point. If the fishermen only kept what they ate then there would be a lot more fish in the river for others to catch. Its sad when people keep all their catches....to then put em in the freezer and never eat em.

All the wild fish in my tanks were released....into a tank :) They're still alive.

NO

Thats why we developed stocking programs, so we can maintain healthy populations as well as enjoy eating them... you should be congratulating him/her.

To the OP: Really nice catch i'm sure it's gonna taste GREAT!!

I am a huge catch and release person but I have a few exceptions. I have no idea where in Cali the op is but in alot of the state(the southern part) all of the trout wil die off when it gets too hot anyways. I know its the summer now but they can hang in there for a while but they all die off eventually.
I also agree with gangster on one point. He isn't really saying that you shouldn't keep any fish, He is saying take what you can eat fresh and only that. People are naturally greedy and always seem to take more than what they need. It makes me cringe to see people take massive amounts of fish home day after day just because "they were biting good today". The OP didn't do anything unreasonable, those two fish are something that will be eaten and not be wasted. It is when people will keep 100 fish just because they can. Those are the fish that will go to waste. I'm aware that sometimes people have fish frys and other events but most of the time they just rot slowly in a freezer.

I also have to say that once a fish is taken from the wild it doesn't matter if it is put in a fish tank or a frying pan. Its all the same in the end.

And to the op: very nice fish. where were you fishing? I spent several years in cali and got in alot of fishing while I was there.
