I am almost ready to move my fish over from the 120g (60x18x26) to the new 210g (72x24x29). I have fish that will defiantly be going in, this will be 5 Silver Dollars, 1 Pleco and my 10" male Midas. The Midas is very easy going, in fact Ive tried other tankmates with him without issue. All of these were eventually removed due to the aggression amongst themselves.

These are fish Ive already tried:
Jack Dempsey - too timid, started hiding all the time, just plain boring
Red Tiger Mota - too mean, territorial
P. Fenestratus - Very mean little killers (had two, never will get these again!)
P. Loisellei - territorial, hid, but otherwise did not start anything (might consider)
V. Synspilum - did not last long, had two, killed by JD (might consider)
Convict - Killed by fene's
Pearei - Killed by fene's (might consider)

Of the above list I am considering trying a Pearsei. A fellow MFK member in town has offered to sell a larger grow out to me and the one that I tried to raise had a lot of spunk, so I see it as a good possible tankmate.

Here are a few others on my list:
Oscar (I know, they are common but they are pretty easy going)
Argentea (How aggressive? There is a 4" one at the LFS that I've watched for a bit and never really saw any aggressiveness out of it)
Synspillum (most peaceful of the vieja, right?)

So there are some of my ideas, I could use some help from fellow MFK members...
What would you recommend? Any combo's that have worked for you?

check out my 230 lol, i have a bunch of fish with my midas, he leaves them alone, except the clown knife.

An oscar should be just fine, yes they are common... but for a reason. I have always really enjoyed them (have a 8" tiger at the moment).

Maybe some red severums?

Also, I know that your midas has been very calm so far, but an oscar that starts getting close to him in size could generate a totally new reaction. I have never kept a midas, but I know they are supposed to be pretty tough (and he's already pretty big).

My Midas has never been a problem fish, it has always been the little tankmates trying to establish their dominance. Forgot to add Chocolate cichild to the death by fene's list.

The Midas will on occasion chase silver dollars, but thats what they are there for. He does not like the pleco but pretty much leaves it alone.

Nice tank Jimmy16!

True, the Midas has only had fish smaller than him, the largest being only 5". So the real test is similar sized tankmates...

I am setting up the 210g with a black background and a dark gravel so brighter fish would work better. If I do go Oscar, I'm leaning toward an albino type strain or lemon. A LFS near me also had some yellow strain convict babies for sale which I know my Midas would not have a problem with as a fish. But they are bite sized... so they would need to be grown out first.

Vieja argentea, bifasciatus, zonatum. Or you could go with more in the Amphilophus line such as red devils, hogaboomorums, or lyonsi.

nice blue gravel ..

I already have the gravel...

and besides I have not been able to find any naturally occurring blue driftwood to match if I used blue gravel. :grinno:

And do you really want a tank that looks like it was decorated by the Smurfs?

Just a joke.
