I got both torts and turts. I have a pair of russians in the yard, hoping they mate and, I have a pair of eastern spiny softshelled turtles in a 90g, hoping they mate. They are both equally great. They both come anytime you approach. The softshells spook easy and love to bury themselves in sand wereas the russians pop out at the first sign of warmth from the sun and go to sleep like clockwork at dusk. The russians are fed weeds from the garden and the turtles eat ANY kind of fish food. I have yet to see them turn anything down. Can they live together in a 240? Maybe. I'd be concerned that the torts would fumble in the water and drown as I've noticed them have trouble navigating their water dish. A 2" deep storage container lid.

Oh I wasn’t asking if they both could live in the same tank I was just thinking of either setting it up for just aquatic turtles or just for smaller species tortoise’s but know I’m kind of thinking maybe a group of box turtles would be pretty neat.

what about a pair of hinge backs?

generally tortoises in a glass tank is a bad idea, they don't understand the concept of a transparent solid and will keep trying to walk through the sides of the tank.
that being said, for species that require high humidity, like some hinge backs, a glass tank may be beneficial in keeping the humidity up. just cover the bottom few inches of the tank so the torts cant see through
also if you want to get hinge backs i highly suggest you get them check out for parasites asap after getting them, most hinge backs in the trade are WC any many have high parasite loads, good luck

wasn’t planning on having both in there, but I am leaning more towards aquatic/semiaquatic turtles.

Iv been looking into Russians allot especially since they stay smaller. Ill have to look into the gator turtles that be pretty neat to raise up.

anybody with pics of there set ups?

I had a couple of these guys for a long time, nothing in a setup that large though. most of the time when not basking, they like to bury themselves and chill. Oh, one more thing. Do NOT put two males together, they will duke it out all time time for domination of the tank, no matter how big.

you might be able to get away with a pair of smooth or chinese soft shell turtles. softys are by far the coolest turt ive ever kept. i also thinks maps would be cool cause you could do a couple different types in a tank that size.

looks like ill be getting two African side necks tomorrow is there anything special I nee to do to there tank are they good swimmers do they like deep water?
