i love the height, it's one of the main reasons i built the tank.
i havent sat down and worked out how much ive spent so far but i think its around £400,
which in n.ireland would buy me a 4ft by 2ft by2ft.
A 6ft by 3ft by 2ft would be scary money, so apart from the feel good factor of actually building something for the first time,
its been well worth building rather than buying.
now for stocking and aquascape...decisions decisions...

just been checking local classified, a 4ft by 2ft by 2ft 'in great condition' aquarium will cost you £750.

Would love to know how the glass is actually attached to the inside of the wooden tank rusty? The resin you used is it a straight forward fibreglass one from a local Hardware store?
Just one more thing, what difference was it use saw in using aquarium silicone..... Questions, questions, questions. I am so....... intrigued with the FANTASTIC !!! work you have done.

the tank is sealed with polyester fibreglass resin strengthened with matt fibre, this isnt waterproof though so i needed to finish it with a polyester resin topcoat.
you can pick any colour you want for the topcoat, i picked green as it'll hide alge growth.
the difference between the bog standard silicone and the aquarium grade one is night and day.
The ordinary one cures fine but if you press a finger into it you can really move it around, the aquarium grade cures Hard with basically no movement when you press against it.
when the tank is fibreglassed and topcoated its just a matter of siliconing the glass straight to the topcoat, it sticks great.

I am really impressed with the job you have done and I have loads of ?'s rusty if you don't mind answering them.
When the wooden shell was made you coated the whole thing with fibre glass resin before attaching the glass?
How did you add the matt fibre and where did you purchase this from?
As you applied the resin, was it just a case of painting on the resin and sticky the matting to it as you went and coating the top of the matting once it was on ?
When all of this was done you then applied the top coat which water proofed the shell?
After that did you just lay the tank on its front and siliconed it laying the glass on it until it set?
One more ? Does the glass have anything else securing it to the tank or just the silicone. Questions, questions questions
