A friend online shipped it to me after it came along as a hitchhiker in one of his imports.

Awesome! I have a bunch of random Anguilla sp. I saved from a local asian supermarket. I spoke with a friend of mine who works in the industry and most if not all of the eels in Canadian supermarkets come from China, so i'm assuming they're A. japonica.

I'm surprised to hear yours doesn't eat that much, mine (14-25") can take down at least 2-6 (depending on size of eel) small feeder goldfish or similar sized morsels each, every day. The larger ones can eat about 2-3 whole thawed black tiger shrimp each and still look for more.
