The end screws off to replace the floss as needed.

How is the water tight seal kept when it is screwed on? A gasket? Do you have photos of that part of the filter?

The pic of the filter shows the cap... I made a gasket with silicone to stop leaking... I haven't cleaned it yet so I don't know if that gasket will hold the next time or if I will have to run a bead of silicone every time I clean it... that's fine though... this filter shouldn't need cleaned very often

So cleaning the big filter proved to be a royal pain... Redesigned with a separate small mechanical filter chamber (2" compression coupling) that is filled with floss. Also added a valve for quick water changes... I should never have to take the big canister off the tank again

those lights are so cool. how much did that cost you to put together?

The lights cost about $30 for a single... I ended up going with two strips though... So about $55 complete...
