Hello, I have a 7ft X 2ft X 2ft aquarium coming in a few weeks. It will have 2 fx6's and planning a sand substrate with lots of rocks and bog wood. I have a jaguar cichlid already and a fahaka (yeah she is fine with fish as she has been with fish since a fry). I am trying to flesh out the plan for the rest of the fish stock. Would those 2, a red terror and another large cichlid (to be decided upon later) along with a ornate birchir as clean up be about right for this tank? Volume is around 220 gallons. Thanks

Lucky haha I want a tank that size. I'd think that's enough room. Not too sure about that Bichir with those large aggressive cichlids though. And as for the other large one, Buttikoferi are I think the coolest but idk about mixing it with those guys

Believe me it's taken a lot of planning and asking, not to mention buying a house to fit it, to get my misses to authorise it! I want a dovii or umbie but they (along with the buttikoferi) are to aggressive and will be a really unstable element in the tank.... Which could result in carnage. I don't want to give the misses a chance to say get rid of the tank if something terrible happens! I want a salvini as well but as they are like 6-7 inches that should be a simple addition.

For the last addition to the big 3, is a red tiger Motaguese to nasty?

I figured an ornate would be able to handle himself... They get to 2 feet, have a bear trap for a bite and are fairly heavily armoured? Or is it a harassed to death issue?

I haven't had a mild mannered parachromis of any type yet. My red tiger female is an absolute terror at 4", she regularly faces down the 7" Oscar we have in there. Not to mention both the amphilophus sp.

I was thinking harassed to death of its a size gap. My bichir never bothered anything or got messed with. But I never kept one with species this aggressive

Yeah that's what I was worried about! It could end up as a death match between the two Parachromis. Easier to leave it as the jag,red terror, fahaka, then go with a salvini and a couple of oscars. To spread the aggression around a bit with more fish. It's not what I want but I need to be realistic.. That could be to much aggression for one tank! And if the fahaka gets to upset (she is normally a very peaceful fish floating around the tank) she will restore order and eat the offender head first (this seems to be her MO). Thanks I think nowI see it written down its a safer choice.

Oscars will easily end up pinned in a corner, I would use a pearsi myself, love them big Green monsters.

Red terror a very aggressive Aswell btw, try to keep it all male to avoid any pairs forming...

Wow so even if I try and spread the aggression around the oscars won't manage? I know they are not the aggressive fish some people take them for but i thought if there was two of them... But maybe your right , terrors are called that for a reason and jags are famous for being highly aggressive.

That's the plan, single specimens of each so no pairing up! Will check out the pearsi
