220 gallon stock

The problem with Oscars is if they get beat up they give up. Could work but only 1 in 10 Oscars will be mean enough.
It's always best to match aggression levels, oscars do best with smaller fish so they can be in charge ime.

I sound like a bit of a hypocrite as I have a big oscar in my 300 with aggressive fish but I don't expect it to work as the others grow...

Yeah oscars are proper bullies, they like to act tough but can't finish a real fight... But that being said, much like yourself, I have seen an Oscar in a friends tank ransack everything!

I'm not loving the Pearsi so will need to look for another fish to fill the role.

I'm a little late here it looks like but first off, gratz on the tank! Made a deal with my wife that I get a monster tank with our first house (part of the cost of the house =P). When it comes to additions with large cichlids is almost always a gamble as every fish is an individual with they're own personalities. Can't speak for the puffer as I know little to nothing about them, but for something to match well with the jag I think it depends on what you're looking for. I'm sure J jaws7777 would love to answer any questions you have on both the Bichir and Pearsi, but for other large cichlids I can't think of anyone who hasn't loved their Amphilophus species. I'm not a big fan of the typical Midevil colors but there are other amphs that have colors I personally like, like Hogaboomarum, and Lyosni. Red Terrors could work as well like you said but from what I've heard (no first hand experience) they are a little more hit or miss personality wise.

Perhaps a Texas. They're able to hold their own in a fight and get larger than the JD but smaller and more capable than an Oscar.

Thanks for all the advice, the birchir experts seem to think of the all grow up together then the ornate will be fine. This is the plan as it will allow them to work out a pecking order/get comfortable with each other as juveniles, and thus hopefully avoid any fish carnage when they are adults. Well that's the theory anyway.

The Texas sounds like an interesting idea, I will look into them.

Okay I looked at Texas cichlids and they look ideal and very pretty as well! The running list for the tank is at this time

1.stone cold (12 inch fahaka)
2. Jaguar cichlid (5 inches)
3. Red terror (not yet aquired)
4. Texas cichlid (not sure which colour form but blue or green I think)
5. Salvini ( just because my misses likes them.. And the are hard as nails)
6. Ornate birchir to clean the bottom of the tank.

How does that sound? Is that tank then full?

Fully grown you will be well stocked yes Imo.
