220g good for rays?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That size tank is fine for one motoro. If by some chance he turns into a damn monster and out grows it, hit the people up on here, I'd take him lol.

I didnt see anyone say reticulated ray?? You could have a pair of reticulated rays in that tank. Id avoid the bichirs imo.
Goodluck

Most rays will out grow the tank, except for those so called "teacup" types. IMO i would get a footprint of 6x4x2 at the very least. it should house them for a few years before you proceed to upgrade to a bigger better tank. i have been keeping my leo & leo/hen in this foot print for quite sometime now.

Give it a shot. They are also doing fine with 4 endlis (2 footers):)

How are you going to filter it? You are going to need some large external filters or a big sump.

6x2 will last a male for a year or so if he is not a large one but these things grow well in good water with good food.

You will need to do large weekly water changes too.

Hell, a 6x2 should last you at least 1.5 to 2 years with either sex of motoro stingray, depending on how fast they grow. A hystrix or reticulated could last in there for much longer.

I planned on having a trio of motoro's in a 125g for at least a year, maybe 18 months, depending on how fast they grew.

As long as you have adequate filtration and don't overcrowd the tank, it should last you plenty of time. The motoro's may hit 24" (maybe), but its going to take them a while to do it. Ask any of the experienced keepers on here how long it takes them to get that size. They hit 12-14" pretty fast, but tend to slow down after that.

Strange, a year? My male is 4 years old and plenty small enough for a 6x2.

i agree, a 6x2 can last about 2 years for a male or female motoro.

Hystrix or reticulated would be fine. Do your home work and learn as much as you can about rays and good companions. Make sure you cycle your tank before getting them. Check lfs in the area and see if they have rays in stock that are feeding. Unless you get them from a good breeder, you never know how healthy they are.
