The nickle poisoning thing was from keeping them in there for a long time. If i remember correctly his water even started to turn color. You should be fine beacuse theyed only be in there for a few days. Good luck with the fix.

aren't those fish at the number and size that they need an upgrade from 220g anyway? edit; leaks suck, i nearly drowned from a leak in a tank of mine before

Yeah. Thats in the works now, for both of us actually. We have some nice preformed pond lined up for pickup in june. They are I believe 8x4x2.5, and they are pretty cheap.
Mike wants to turn the 220 to salt after the cats are in the pond, but I'm trying to prevent that.

Especially when the tank has a leak. It's hard to keep water in a leaking tank.
