Hey guys, I know shotguns and handguns, but I want in not too long to grab an affordable rifle that allows me to load fast, loaded mags on hand ya know.

Im in CA so the pistol grips are out of the question with the locking mags, I want everything perfectly legal, no sneaking around laws.

I noticed in the store prices from 700 to 2000 mostly.

Give me some ideas, and or a good active forum that I should browse.

Take care and thanks.

what do you want to use it for? long range? for fun? tacticool? protection? hunting? but in your budget, you basically could get whatever that is out there. just because the bullet itself is very small, or light doesnt mean it wont kill something. the 5.56 was use by the army for many years and is still used today. 55 grains going at 3000fps to the stomach wouldnt be pretty. 223/556 are pretty much the same. hope this doesnt become a caliber war.

remington / savage bolts are popular. both calibers
saiga 223 / 308 might be legal for you
m1a are very nice guns
mini 14

thats what i can think of that dont have pistol grips.

My two cents.... Spend the extra money and get a 5.56 over a .223 because you can safely shoot .223 out of a 5.56 but not a 5.56 out of a .223.... Same with .308 get a 7.62.. I have both 7.62 and 5.56. I prefer shooting my 7.62 but cheaper to
Shoot my 5.56. I will always by rifles made for NATO rounds over civilian rounds. One reason if it ever does turn to a apocalyptic situation having a gun chambered for a NATO will give you more chances of finding extra rounds. I mean the .408 cheytac is an awesome gun but you will never find ammo once it's not made anymore and most armies of the world use 7.62. For a 5.56 I own a paraordnance ttr 5.56 IMO best AR you can buy!! (out of the box I know of a few custom builders that have some badazz ARs) My 7.62 is a custom built black rifle...

Have both AR and m-14 I prefer the AR way better the m-14 is just part of my military collection I mean if your just looking for a decent cheap 7.62 than go with an old Russian mosin-nagant great gun really and I see them for sell for under $250 I love mine but don't shoot it that often

Thanks guys, yeah protection, though Ive got my 45 and 12 gauge for home, but some distance for the virus infected walking corpses some day, really just in case whatever hits the fan some day if ever.
