225 Gallon Setup

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Your saying you have 5 2x12s supporting the area you want to put the tank? I'm going to go ahead and say your fine.

If I remember right a single 2x6 can support around 1600 lbs ?

I placed them toward the front of the tank because the foundation wall supports the back of the tank. That only leaves a roughly 30" span of joist supporting the weight which won't deflect. This is all in a 100 year old house with old school beams and not newer, better construction. I was able to level the floor with the jack poles as well and almost eliminate shimming.

Makes sense. Do you have any pictures?

I don't at the moment and I'm not home to get some.

If you place a jack pole under each joist at the front of the tank you should have more than enough support. Each joist will support at least 1600 pounds and that's over 8 feet. The load bearing capacity increases over shorter span because there's less deflection. Also remember your subfloor will spread that load out over each joist. A filled 220 will go around 3000 pounds if I'm not mistaken, and that spread out over 6 joists, subfloor, and minimal span should be more than adequate. My thoughts anyway.

About 20" on center between. The runs are about 12-14' until the steel support beam.

Ya that's not to bad. I wouldn't be worried personally.

That's the fun part. I picked up a free 135 gallon setup 2 years ago. The only catch. We had to get it out from the 20 something floor of a high rise building.

Let me tell you that 135 felt like a million lbs when the brakes on the elevator came on lolololol
