Thanks Bderick. I was going to do trial N error either way. I just wanted to hear some experiences. And see
If anyone has had some serious issues with the stock I've listed. I had a person on the CA/SA say he
Keeps balas with his festae and Midas and they do fine. Probably doesn't hurt that the balas will probably be the biggest fish in the tank.
Also wanting to know other things that would work. I really do appreciate all the comments and hearing everyone's experiences.
Yeah I'm not saying you didn't I am just going to do trial n error if it doesn't work I'll take them out no biggie. Does anyone have any other ideas on tank mates for these guys?
Midas will work fine and the female festae is one' of the best looking sa/ca cichlids there is, and that not while in breeding dress. The previous posters have no clue. Get the tank cycled add your existing fish, then later add more stock. Other large cichlids may or msy not work, will have some trial and error. Good luck.
No I have no clue not Like I've kept and bred cichlids for over 10 years. festae take a very long time to colour up and they hide all the time. hey its your tank if you want a huge 225 gallon with 3 fish in there be my guest
Seems like every thread I look at someone's always poking and making an argument over something. All I did was ask a question and everyone else scolds each other over my question or what I am going to do. Rafini I really do appreciate your
Input I know you are very knowledgable about this topic and I believe you. All I am saying is I'm going to give it a shot seeing how I already have the fish. I only have 4tanks running. I can't keep them in the 40B for life, I can't put
Them in my 72BF with my 2 sevs and angel fish. And I can't keep them in my 55 with parrot fish and salvinis. This is the only option I have left. If it doesn't work out I'm going to have to sell them. And I don't want to. I understand the fish are aggressive, but, I'm just trying to see what may work. It's not like I'm going to go out and buy a Dovii Umbee Jaguar Tilapia or w.e else and make a " monster cichlid " tank. I just want to see if anyone has had this combination and if it has worked/ not worked. I have had a Midas before a significantly larger one than the one I have now and he was the most peaceful fish I've ever had. All fish are different. I'm going to try it like I said. And if it works ill leave it, if it doesn't ill move people around.
Seppii, honestly I'm not trying to be rude sorry if it came across that way, It's just that you have to understand that there is a HUGE amount of possibilities for a tank that large. and as someone who has been there done that I really enjoy the non cichlid approach. Plus when I had to switch them out I got literally 10% of what I paid, and I had some pretty rare cichlids in there.
Yes what you have can work, but for how long I don't know. I had a small devil in my tank and it grew out with some large tetras as dithers. So you could definately keep balas with your midas. they get more and more aggressive as time goes on and they will bully anything that won't stand up to them. they are also extremely fast growers. I'm not saying don't try it. but just be very wary of your fishes activity and always be ready to remove something to another tank incase anything goes wrong.
There are 2 reasons why people argue over something like this,
1. they are jealous
2. they have done the same thing before and want to stress that what they experienced wasn't positive.
Like Naos said, tinfoil barbs would make a better dither in that tank than the balas but you can try balas and see how they go. tinfoils grow larger faster and cost around half the price, so thats why I'm suggesting them as a nice robust dither
