I just got a 225g, 6'x2'x2.5' with 3/4 inch acrylic. It came with a stand and canopy as well as a 30g sump. The canopy houses 2 corallife 96w lights, 2 105w sho bulbs, and a moon light. The sump has pyramid style bio balls, various fiter pads, and two pumps a maxi jet 1200 leading to a 36w uv steralizer and a 900 gph mag drive pump leading to the main tank. I will most likly add aditional filtration. Either 2 fluval 405s, an FX5, a Rena xp4 or a Eheim 2260 comments on that are welcome. This thread will cover its progression. :headbang2

That sump is so small you may as well go with a couple FX5's. On my 210 I have 640 gallons of filtration, it does ok.

Ha not even water yet... Hopefully going to have it allmost set up in the next week or so.

Ya thought the sump was to small thats why I was talking about more filtration. Where is the best place to get a 2260?

Im also planning on redoing the sump... Any suggestions for optimal filtration?

I've only bought one brand new Eheim 2260, the others I got off Ebay. You just have to wait to find one thru Ebay.

Looks like it is going to be a beautiful tank. As far as the size of the sump, don't let it fool you. The main reason people use large sumps is to handle the total volume of water that will "overflow" to the sump when the pump or power is off. A 30 gallon sump may just handle the volume of water depending on how your overflow towers/returns are set up. I have run almost the exact gallon tank/sump together and have never overflowed the sump because I have holes drilled in the returns to break the back-syphon, so I'm speaking from experience here :D..

I would run a single FX5 for excellent mechanical/redundancy (and since your pump has a low turn over rate). The key is how much water can flow through the sump not the overall size of it in gallons, so long as it can handle all of the water volume during power down. If you have a high turnover rate/large plumbing in a smaller sump, it's no different than the same rate going through a larger sump. Hope that makes sense.

I agree w/ Justin...
Volume of sump box is purely for overflow in power outages.
I have 40g sump on a 125g tank...
works great.
Only problem is the power issue: return hoses sit lower than overflow box, so water continues to drain down to return flow directors.
