But at that size, they all look similar.. maybe choose the biggest of the bunch?

there are subtle ways to tell which juveniles will turn out the best.

Man we got to get these guys of the endangered species list so we can get them over here in the states

I've been wondering.. with that many choices, how does one choose? Or do they just pick one randomly?

you have to have a good eye then its down to your price range and nothing more after you have made up your mind if you want red or gold

as the average big tank in sing is 4x2x2 most go for golds as they stay much smaller than red

but if the truth be known most people end up not being happy with the xback the pay for and most sell and buy a new aro this is a smart move by the farms because if all the xbacks sold all crossed the farm would only ever sell one aro per person which is not good for the farm

if the truth also be told even for the people in sing they are lucky if 1 in 100 xbacks ever fully cross

you can spend thousands of $$$$ buying and selling aros looking for the perfect aro which you may never find

i feel if you spend $2k on a aro then the farm should be able to give you a garantee that it will cross but it will never happen as the farm get out of it with you must be feeding the wrong type of food or your light is wrong but the best one is you need to give it more time and hope you go away or sell

then another seller will tell you you need to buy from a trusted seller what they mean is come spend your $$$$$$ with me

the high end aro game is a massive gamble you stand more change of winning the lotto than getting a fully crossed xback

Sorry but I've a silly question, what does the cross in xback mean?

the x is short for cross back gold = xback if a farm calls a fish a xback then it should have scales that cross all over its back this doesnt happen with a much cheaper red tail gold which only has gold scale just up the side of its bodt a red tail gold costs £300 in the UK a xback price starts at £1100 and most of them just end up looking like a high grade red tail gold
i have had about 18 xbacks none of them have had scales that cross over the back

the asian aro market is one big rip off

Let me share my exprience in this WTT issue.

What is White Tank Treatment (WTT)?

White Tank Treatment is a process where we put the crossback golden in for grooming. The right environment provided by the process will help enhance the development of the higher shine and for those with Golden Head potential fish.

We understand that despite providing them with the right environment, we can never speed up the process of achieving the result fast due to the nature of growing up. All these need time and fish of the same batch does not develop together as a whole. Some will develop faster while some much slower.

Arowana been treated in this process tend to develop higher shine like crossing on crossbacks and fuller pearlies development at their dorsal fin. But this process needs time.

There are some factors which will lead to a crossback golden not displaying their nice and clean crossing.

1. The (WTT) is not been set up or done properly.
2. In the farm, we notice blue base crossback and darker base crossback golden tend to develop higher shine and pearlies much slower.
3. The crossback golden is still too young or slow developer.
4. The crossback golden’s grooming process was interrupted and been housed in a colored tank with too strong of the lighting been used which will slow down the development further.
5. The bloodline of the crossback golden.

These is crossback golden been WTT for almost a full year in the white FGT without interruption. Notice the full clean crossing soon?

And these is a darker base one and blue base which is less than a year old in WTT

Many are afraid that by doing (WTT) on their arowana will lose the ability to develop their full potential color. How the fish will look depend entirely on their genetics make up. Fish with good color genes will still develop their nice coloration in the white tank during the (WTT) period. All juvenile fish will look pale for they are too young to show any color due to the color pigment cells on their scales is not ready. But once the fish has grown bigger, color will start to develop. Those of the weaker genes one will still look pale or only showing weak coloration on them.

So to keep the understanding simple. All we need is:

1. Good genes
2. Right environment
3. Patience

This info is base on years of experimenting on our fish in our farm. Hope this clear up the questions in most people’s mind on WTT.
