my knuckle headed friend brought this fish to my house last night and i had to keep it overnight so it wouldnt die. i returned her this am. sheesh...

its a no no to release CB fish into habitats its not common with. if it was wild caught, and was released to the area from where it was caught, i dont see anything wrong with that.
 
it really depends on the regulations in your area. where I live, it is illegal to take a native fish put it in an aquarium then release it.

but it is legal to keep and eat one.

why? I believe the idea is that in putting the native fish into an aquarium, the fish could pick up non-native parasites (eg. camallanus worms) or diseases and introduce them into the native watershed when you release it back into the wild.

still, that is such a cool pike!
