24 inch pike in a 120 gallon

What you see as OK and what the Dept of Wild Life think are two different things. There are many reasons for this, you may want to research what is legal in your area.

there isn't, as long as they don't pick up anything (disease/parasite) while they are in your tank.

but legally, I believe this is why it is illegal to do this in most places.

it is the exposure to pathogens/parasites while in your captivity that is the issue.

its sort of strange when you think about it: they let you kill it, but not keep it and then release it.

but it makes sense when you realize the reason behind it.

Well they are thinking of the whole population instead of that one fish so it seems reasonable.

poor thing could barely turn around. my goofy friends catch pike day in and day out so im sure ill get a reasonable sized one soon...
 
The next time your friend does that, eat it. Pike have nice and flakey meat
