sounds like a good variety and stock there! i would go for a single male bocourti over a pair since you are already going to be having the rotkeil pair and bocourtis get huge so could do some damage if they decided to be aggressive when breeding, personally i would do your stock from the first list and then like a nice school of angels since you said you liked them, if your escondido is super mellow you could try him out but most likely he will be too aggressive, same thing with the oscar, if he is super mellow then all of those fish would get large enough to not be considered food... like stated i think the brasiliensis might be a little too rowdy on the red heads, you could do group of another type of geo as well though like winemilleri or something else that gets a little larger than the red heads
I was kinda thinking a single male bocourti as well for the reasons you mentioned so thats probably the way id go now.
I had said the angles becasue I had just read about someone having them with oscars...I dont love them but do think they are cool but would be on the lower end of the want list.
The escondido...not so sure he is mellow...he got beat up in one tank with a few other fish...but killed the female I got for him. I already have him so I might would be inclined to try him becasue I could pull him if need be. Same goes for the oscar...I have 5...I think I have 2 pairs...and the one im looking at moving is the lest dom of them all. It is in a 125 with 2 that might be a pair and gets chased by the other oscars...yellow bullhead catfish...and giant pleco. It would however be the biggest thing in the tank at probably 8".
I have the red heads and the bras already is why I was considering the mix...the red heads are housed with the sevrums too...only things in that tank...I like the idea of freeing up that tank...but I also like the bras a lot too. The bras killed the female he had once spawned with. Thats why I have some of these odd and end fish...either they killed there mate or its extras from growing fish out.
Yeah.... I would be careful with the carpinte and lyonsi. Cool fish. But would probably be too much aggression for the over all stock of the tank. The chocolate though does sound cool. And I like the idea of a school of rainbows. I guess I am a bit of a purist with Centrals and South Americans. If i did a stock of south americans like that I would keep it mostly if not all south w/out mixing in any centrals, especially big centrals. Just my opinion and thoughts. Good luck! I envy your 240!
The lyonsi I have the most doubts with...it chases the other two pretty good in the tank they are in...but my lone tinfoil barb in there stands up to him and gives chase sometimes. I dont mind the mix...not looking for a pure tank...just something nice to look at.
Agree that a singleton bocourti may well be the best way to go, rather than a pair.
I would be concerned that the polleni, lyonsi, brasiliensis and tex would all prove to be too aggressive for some of the others.
Don't know too much about them but aren't the D.sexfasciatus supposed to be quite aggressive as adults too ?
A choc would fit in a treat though ! What about a couple of uaru ?
The polleni is in with my africans now...and is no where near at the top of the food chain so I dont know how aggressive it is or isnt...my lil one loves it tho so I was trying to keep it in the mix,
The sexfasciatus is the same thing...in with africans and lil one loves it...but that one is pretty aggressive and probably wouldnt make the mix.
I am not sure if I like the uarus...i have looked at them some tho.
I would also stagger the addition of the fish in the tank to give the lesser ones time to establish themselves. Like the redheads (or other type if I switch) before the bras...and the escondido and oscar last...or the lyonsi the last thing.
