I currently have all male haps and peacocks in it and I am looking to change to sa/ca. I am not sure what all i want to put but there a few that I know I want...and there are some in some of my other tanks I think id like to mix in. What I think so far:

pair rotkeli severums
7 red head geos.
one or a pair of bocourti
7 or so clow loachs

Now in the above mix...could these mix:

male geo brasiliensis
Polleni
dist. saxfashiatus (spelling)
male carpintis escondido
chocolate
school of giant danios or rainbows
lyonsi

The first list is ones that im pretty sure about...second list are ones I think id like to mix in if possible. I also want some other ideas from yall on what to add. I have thought maybe some angles and one of my peru oscars (that never ate live food before). I know some of the ideas might be sketchy...but its a larger tank so maybe?

I like the sound of the stock you have planned, esp. adding the bocourti which are awesome looking fish. I think the chocolates would also be a nice choice.

The things that concern me with the mix is the geo brasiliensis with the other geo's. Also if the carpintis and lyonsi would be to aggressive for the mix....I already have those two fish so thats why I was thinking about trying them. I dont think id do the school of rainbow/danieos but maybe tinfoil or silver dollers/red hooks....

sounds like a good variety and stock there! i would go for a single male bocourti over a pair since you are already going to be having the rotkeil pair and bocourtis get huge so could do some damage if they decided to be aggressive when breeding, personally i would do your stock from the first list and then like a nice school of angels since you said you liked them, if your escondido is super mellow you could try him out but most likely he will be too aggressive, same thing with the oscar, if he is super mellow then all of those fish would get large enough to not be considered food... like stated i think the brasiliensis might be a little too rowdy on the red heads, you could do group of another type of geo as well though like winemilleri or something else that gets a little larger than the red heads

Yeah.... I would be careful with the carpinte and lyonsi. Cool fish. But would probably be too much aggression for the over all stock of the tank. The chocolate though does sound cool. And I like the idea of a school of rainbows. I guess I am a bit of a purist with Centrals and South Americans. If i did a stock of south americans like that I would keep it mostly if not all south w/out mixing in any centrals, especially big centrals. Just my opinion and thoughts. Good luck! I envy your 240!

Agree that a singleton bocourti may well be the best way to go, rather than a pair.

I would be concerned that the polleni, lyonsi, brasiliensis and tex would all prove to be too aggressive for some of the others.

Don't know too much about them but aren't the D.sexfasciatus supposed to be quite aggressive as adults too ?

A choc would fit in a treat though ! What about a couple of uaru ?

I was kinda thinking a single male bocourti as well for the reasons you mentioned so thats probably the way id go now.

I had said the angles becasue I had just read about someone having them with oscars...I dont love them but do think they are cool but would be on the lower end of the want list.

The escondido...not so sure he is mellow...he got beat up in one tank with a few other fish...but killed the female I got for him. I already have him so I might would be inclined to try him becasue I could pull him if need be. Same goes for the oscar...I have 5...I think I have 2 pairs...and the one im looking at moving is the lest dom of them all. It is in a 125 with 2 that might be a pair and gets chased by the other oscars...yellow bullhead catfish...and giant pleco. It would however be the biggest thing in the tank at probably 8".

I have the red heads and the bras already is why I was considering the mix...the red heads are housed with the sevrums too...only things in that tank...I like the idea of freeing up that tank...but I also like the bras a lot too. The bras killed the female he had once spawned with. Thats why I have some of these odd and end fish...either they killed there mate or its extras from growing fish out.

The lyonsi I have the most doubts with...it chases the other two pretty good in the tank they are in...but my lone tinfoil barb in there stands up to him and gives chase sometimes. I dont mind the mix...not looking for a pure tank...just something nice to look at.

The polleni is in with my africans now...and is no where near at the top of the food chain so I dont know how aggressive it is or isnt...my lil one loves it tho so I was trying to keep it in the mix,

The sexfasciatus is the same thing...in with africans and lil one loves it...but that one is pretty aggressive and probably wouldnt make the mix.

I am not sure if I like the uarus...i have looked at them some tho.

I would also stagger the addition of the fish in the tank to give the lesser ones time to establish themselves. Like the redheads (or other type if I switch) before the bras...and the escondido and oscar last...or the lyonsi the last thing.

if you dont do the angels then i dont see the O being a problem at all (angels could possibly still work if they were already a bit larger but its a chance), especially if he is not very dominant, there are some killer Os out there but usually for the most part they tend to be hungry more than bullies and with enough space are more interested in you putting food in the tank than any of the fish, i dont know anything about pollenis or sexfasciatus so cant really comment on those but yeah also without the angels the escondido might work out, i would see him picking on the other fish but probably not the geos, at least none of my cichlids seem to pick on my geos at all and my stock isnt what you would normally consider "peaceful" but it works for now (still have some growouts that aren't permanent)

That is what it is all about. Having something nice to look at! A lot of people ask the question, "What should I get?" Answer.... Get what you like the look of! Within reason of course. :)

I am just wondering what yall think might work based off what yall have had seen or read...and just general convo about it. This is for my home tank...the rest of my 16 tanks are at my office and mostly for breeding so I am looking for show. The all male hap and peacock make for a nice show but I have grown tired of them. This switch is still some time off becasue i have to move the current fish out...cut out my overflows...set up 2 fx5's...then I can restock. Big project...may take a month or so to start.
