water change 25% every other day:D

Here is what I found on the net. I pasted two sources.

Green Water:

The green water, or pea soup, is an algae bloom. Free floating planktonic single celled
algae is what is turning the water green. The cause is almost always, excess nutrients (nitrates and/or phosphates) or excessive lighting.

Algae consumes oxygen at night and a severe algae bloom can reduce oxygen to critically low levels, so while treating the tank, try to increase water circulation until you have the problem solved.

Common causes:

Overfeeding - Most aquarium flake food is high in phosphates and as the food decays these phosphates are released.

Infrequent filter changes - Decaying material in the filter can also cause increased nitrate and phosphates.

Infrequent water changes - Water changes is the method used to control nitrate and phosphate levels in your aquarium. Phosphates can also be controlled through the use of phosphate pillows available at your local aquarium store.

Excessive light - not only aquarium lighting but also might be intense room lighting or direct sunlight.

Solutions

The solution is twofold. First eliminate the current algae bloom and secondly prevent it's return. The only way I know to control algae blooms is to control the nutrient and lighting levels of the tank.

First to prevent return

Reduce feeding - You need to assure that all of the food is eaten

Reduce light - If indirect or sunlight look for ways to reduce. Reduce the number of hours the tank lighting is on.

Increase filter changes and water changes - to control nitrate and phosphate levels.

Vacuuming the gravel will also help.

Getting rid of the current algae bloom

- A couple of more expensive solutions would be to use a diatom filter or a UV filter. The diatom filter uses a very fine diatomaceous earth to trap the algae while a UV filter kills the algae by destroying it's DNA.

- DaFishDude has a solution on his web site where he recommends covering the tank for 72 hours. (pasted from web site):
Green Water:
Well it seems as though I have been receiving a whole lot of E-mails lately as to green cloudy water and what to do about it. As long as this green cloud is just in your water, and not attached or growing all over the glass, substrate, decorations, etc. Here is what you can do to easily get rid of the green cloud and see your fish again.

There are two methods I use if and when I run into a green cloudy tank, the first method involves wrapping the tank completely in a dark heavy cloth as to not allow any light whatsoever into the tank. After wrapping the tank up, I turn off the aquariums light and let the tank sit in total darkness for 24-36 hours. I don't peek, nor do I open the tank up for feeding. Don't worry; normally fish can do quite well for a few days with out being fed. After the tank has been completely with NO peeking for the 24-36 hours I remove the covering. Usually you will see a 75-100% improved and rather clear tank. If it is crystal clear, you're all done. If however it is mostly clear but not a 100 percent, wait 72 hours and then repeat the whole covering process over again.

Now, if after the first covering you notice only slight to no improvement, do not waste your time by waiting and covering the tank again. For these “trouble” tanks I normally add a small amount of ‘Beckett’s Algae Clumping Agent’ to the water. You can find Beckett’s on-line or at better pond supply stores locally. Now there are other algaecides on the market, but I have not personally found anything that works better than Beckett’s and at such a low cost. Usually you can a bottle of this stuff for under 10 bucks and a single bottle will treat up to 1000 gallons, more than enough to last you a good long time.

I'm Xanatost's girlfriend... I kept hearing from him how cool MonsterFishKeepers is, so I had to join.
I was very guilty of overfeeding... That's been fixed... I will do some water changes this week and hopefully get some pictures of the tank on the forum soon.
And I do have a sister... But she's revolted when I start cleaning worms to feed the eels. Not her thing ;-) I personally think the peacock eels have adorable little faces and each has a personality. :-) Glad to be part of the forum now... Only 4 more posts til I'm a full member!!!
