240 filtration question

Sumps are safe there is plenty of caution you can take If power goes off. My sump is a 40 gallon in my 200 gallon tank and works wonderful. Not one issue in the last 7 years. I clean the foam pad here and there and that's it from the sump. I usually get food in there from my over flow I have a very good pump and now I use sinking pellets

Well like I said, the only reason i am not using a sump is because my pops is scared about it. I tried to tell him but he is not having it.

Yeah you can do a hang on filter but I would do the canister though. What it set you back a type of tank like that?

I only paid $300 for the tank another $80 for the meat of the stand. Now just got to worry about sand, driftwood and filtration heating and lighting. I already have lighting and heating figured out though.

wanting to use 2x fluval fx6's. A bit of overkill but I can use a spray bar to break up the flow a bit.

2x fx 6s probably isn't really overkill on a 240 especially if it's going to be well stocked with monsters. I'd just be tellin the old boy the sumps gettin used and he ain't got a say lol. Bit hard in his own house I Spose thou. He probably just needs to do a bit of reading up on them and realise they can be made fail safe. Much easier to maintain than 2 big bulky canisters.

Agree 100% about sump for big tanks. There are challenges specially the noise arena, but learned to finally fine tune it to make my sumps run quietly.

Well I have tried to make him see reason. I have a lot of stuff I want to add to the overall filtration and care of the tank that the canisters will not permit. However since it is his house I must comply with what he says as far as some stuff goes. I am lucky that I am even getting to set up a tank this large in the dining room lol.

So canisters it is :-). Have/are you looking to still use the overflow, per your original question of this thread? I don't think there would be any standing water if you just used them for the drain and return.

Yea I want to use the overflows with the stand pipes. Only thing I am not sure is how to tie the overflows in with the canisters. This will be my first time using them as I only have a 45 and 40b running right now that use whisper ex70 filters with a sponge filter. Stepping into very new lands with a drilled 240 and canisters.
