I would go spendy right away...
You can build a sump.. But I would have it drilled and buy a real pump
for 240-300.00 YOu will save money after a coupel months use...
Sequence dart pushes more water at higher head than any equally submersible.. And runs at half the wattage or paower.. Hence your elctric bill for your pump alone is half of what it would be with your standard mag drive or submersible..
This is about 100-150.00 more than a mag 24-34 and about 100.00 more than 2 mag 12's.. And would be the same as getting 3 mag 12's
igf you are going DIY

My opinion is go all the way.. I built my system from pretty much scartch if you remember my DIY thread..
My sump was no different.. I went with a mag 24 and I wish i would have spent the extra 100.00 on a Dart.. Mainly because of reliability and power consumption now..
I worry about my mag drive pump when it acts up or makes funny noises.. I usually mess with it til it is good again.. But still.. Adn plus I don't really worry about floods due to water level's are good...
If you are strapped right now.. i would definitely have 1 or 2 AC 110's

My breeding tank is ran by ONE

Not my choice but I had extra's and am low on flow...
OH!! And right away go spend 20-60 bucks on some wood and build a canopy

More light in your tank and less light all over your room
In my opinion.. Like Boosten's I believe in Sump filtration

And event eh simplist sump will decimate a canister or hob.. mainly becasu even the largest Fluval fx5 is limited when it comes to media... In a 55 you can pile media to the end of the world if that's your thing,....
My main suggestion is GOOD FLOW

If you have a good return the flow of your water will hit every corner of your tank..
But anyway... Babble babble... i could go on for days on things i want and woudl like to experiment with..
