Hello to all , am planning to get a 240 gallon 96 x 24 x 24 tank for two silver Aro's Eventually. I have a 40 gallon 3 x 12 x 18 am using as a grow up tank. any suggestions as to what type of filter (thinking of getting two eheim pro 3's ) , gravel , heater , etc. I need for the tank looking at black gravel as substrate driftwood centerpiece and some plants to decorate tank. Will be of great help to get things right the first time and not make a very expensive mistake. looking at maybe $2000 to spend for the whole lot :screwy:

Do your aros a favor and get them a tank that is at least 30" wide. As for filtration a wet/dry sump is a great way to go.

I agree, I wish I had a tank with that width so I could add rays.

If you don't mind buying a glass tank you could find a 240 gallon from between $600.00 and $800.00. I would recommend Plexiglas though lighter and much easier to work with.

I recommend using a wet dry sump filter system for your tank. This is a great filter and very easy to clean and maintain. If you choose you could cross over to salt water as well.

I concur 30 inches wide makes a huge difference for arowanas. Go 30 inches wide.

why what wrong with 24" ?

Do you think keeping your aros in your current 12" wide tank until they are 15" would be Ok?

Ratio wise your looking at the same thing with a 24" wide tank and two 30" aros.:(

only have one 4 incher in the 40 gallon tank , will add on a larger one when I get the bigger tank when the 4 incher gets to 12. so just leave the 240 gallon with one Aro then?
