only have one 4 incher in the 40 gallon tank , will add on a larger one when I get the bigger tank when the 4 incher gets to 12. so just leave the 240 gallon with one Aro then?

What they are referring to is the maximum length of an Aro. They typically get up to 30+ inches. You really want to give them as much width as possible.

no 30 inches for atleast 1 to turn its like having to turn a car thts 4 m long on a 2 m wide road its long enough but not wide enough

I had an Arowana in a 260 that was 24" deep. He was given to me 10 years ago at about 12" length. He died a couple months ago for no apparent reason, the other fish were fine and water tested good. Anyway he was 30" when I removed him from the tank and he never had any problem turning around. Certainly a 30" wide tank would be better. How long do they typically live in an aquarium? I'm not sure how old mine was, I would think he must have been at least 3 or 4 years before I got him to have already been 12"?

anybody here in the forum who has successfully raised 2 aro in 96 x 24 x24 tank? am still figuring things out,I am getting the bigger 240 gallon around summer time next year I figure an inch a month then my 4 incher would be 12 by then? As to the equipment two eheim 2080 will suffice right? and maybe inch of black gravel. driftwood planted centerpiece anything else? as for lighting am just going to put 3 flourescent strip lights. So far suggestions are mostly for tank size am looking at the whole picture here.

you should go wiht the 30 inch wide tank , I know its your tank and its your choice but 30 inches wide would be alot better from them than to try and turn with a tank that is 24 inches wide

I have no problem with the flexi glass 96"x24"24 with my 2 asian aro's, If you have that much money go for 36" wide with wet and dry sump. As for the lighting i have a 4 footer coralife and a white pool sand.

I was running Ocean Clear Filters, a poly bead and a mechanical and a heater module that dumped over 4 bio-wheels, pump is a Rainbow quite one. Had a couple pieces of driftwood on the ends and some low rocks in the middle. Mostly open so he had room to swim. I have 2 10,000K flourescents for lights and 2 tricromatics but usually only run 2, running all 4 increases the algae growth in the tank big time.

Look, we can all agree that 30" would be better, but it's not like the fish is going to die from being in a 24" wide tank. All this "the fish won't be happy" or "the fish will hate you" is just anthropomorphic nonsense. Arguing over whose tiny glass box is slightly larger is pointless. We are all confining our fish to little prisons for our own personal, selfish amusement.

You have no problem with raising two arowana in a 96 x 24 x24 for the next 2-3 years. Some of those guys who insisted you on getting a 30 wide tank have done the same thing or worst, keeping multiple adult silver arowana in a 24-in wide tank, some even keep them in a 180-gal tank, and loaded the same tank with cichlids  It's either they're hypocrite, or they think arowana is as stiff as a boat, that a 30" arowana need 30-in wide to have room for turning around! I have never used Eheim filter, so I can't give you opinion on them, but I would suggest go with two Fluval FX5 instead, or a good size wet/dry filter that is capable of handling a 240-gal tank. Good luck on your quest! :)
