the guy says it had water in it when he bought it, he drained it brought it home filled it again in his garage let it sit 2 weeks, no leaks then drained it and it has sat 8 months with nothing being done to it. my question now is if it has been set up as salt water tank once can it be set up freshwater now?

Not an issue at all with going from saltwater to freshwater setup.

Still insist on seeing it filled. Otherwise, like buying a car without driving it. Unless you want to gamble in possibly owning an expensive reptile tank. Plus, filling it lets you see if there's any scratches. Like I highly recommend, no fill, walk away.

definetly!! just talked to him and he said it was a cichlid tank originally

Wasn't meant to be. Just be patient. You want an aquarium not a major headache.
