240 gallon filtration

Please remember that your not sizing the sump to the volume of media you can put in it. Your sizing the sump to the volume of water that will be siphoned from the tank and plumbing while the pump is off. You also need to factor in the continuous volume of water in the sump. The calculator takes care of this for you.

TTT= ????

What do you mean by that? If your wondering what it means it stands for To The Top. When you type this in it brings your thread to the top of the list.

increasing the volume of water will only lead to a much larger water change. You will not have to worry about the bio load with a proper filtration system. A heavy stocked aquarium will have no problem with bio load with a proper filtration. No need to add "more water volume" just because of this.

When you read his post, "Whatever Pal". I highly doubt he is trying to be a friend. Also, don't bring a dictionary into this, I know what its supposed to mean , I also know what people use it as.

its different when their tanks are saltwater.

WTF!

So, you go from a 80 gallon sump which can hold 110-240 liters of media, to two Fx5 which will hold 10 liters of media @ 1200 GPH, to 3 AC110s which in total will hold 3 liters of media @ 1350 GPH. I am not saying they won't work, but you tried telling the guy that 80 gallon sump is the way to go and he should actually go bigger and then you tell him to get 3 Ac110s that hold 3 liters of media altogether....

To the OP. DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS GUY!! He has no idea what he is talking about!!

if he has 3 ac110 and performs weekly 30-40% waterchanges and cleans filter I see why not...

I currently have a 270G with a 35 gallon sump and I constantly have to make sure that the water level is high enough so that my return pumps aren't sucking air, but not so high that the sump overflows if the power goes out. It's a pain in the butt. IMHO, when it comes to sumps, bigger is better. Constantly tweaking the water level in the sump is a pain!

you could use a elbow on the inlet side of your return pump pointing down. I had to do this to prevent that Whirlpool affect crated by the pump.
