Hey guys/gals,
i tinkering on thinking of just going ahead with a 240 gallon tank. Do you guys think this should be enough to house a arowana for it's entire life? the dimensions would be 96x24x24.

anyone out there housing them currently in 240 tanks with any input they would like to share? can i still stick with glass or would i want to go with a acrylic tank? what kind of filter(s) you guys are running. what kind of heater(s)? etc.... thanks!:headbang2

I think you'll be fine.....good luck:D

Depends what type of arowana.

If it is a Jardini then I would say yes.

If it is a silver/Black then I would say no. They are flexible but I don't think that it is very humane to have a 30+ inch fish bending itself into a pretzel to try to turn around.

If you are looking to house a Silver/Black for life then I would go with a tank at least 30 inches wide.

I concur. If you have a silver, a 36" or even a 48" tank width will be great for life.

The minimum tank for an arrowana is 120gallon (4x2x2), but the bigger the better.

a 4x2x2 is way to small for any aro if you ask me

a 6x2x2 is min size for a jar or asian aro

WRONG! The minimum tank size for a Silver Arowana which I think you are talking about would have to be something that is about 6 feet long and 30" wide.

Jardini minimum tank size would be a 180(6' x 2' x 2').

you do realize how big arowanas get. I think you need the tank length to be 3x the aro and depth(front to back) to be at least equal to the aro. Figure it is gonna get at least 30" long So your looking at a tank of 300 gallons. 96" x 30" x 24". The 240 would for for 3-4 years but eventually your aro will become cramped.

A 180 gallon would be fine for a Jardini.

a black or jar would be good, whether you get a silver is up to you. personally i think that keeping a 3' fish in a 2' wide tank is cruel.
