I just bought a 240 gallon acrylic tank that was a reef tank and now I want to make it freshwater. I plan on cleaning up the acrylic before I add water. I was wondering what the best chemicals were to clean up the salt residue and left over algae?

Thanks ahead of time.

i only use vinegar or vodka and HOT water to clean anything that has to do with my fish. problem with acrylic is that you can't really scrub it, anything abrasive will scratch it.

i'm gonna suggest, vinegar or vodka, with boiling or near boiling water and a soft cloth.

Sounds great. I am going to have to get kicking on that. Ill do vinegar. I dont want to waste too much vodka haha.

i buy the $5 per gallon vodka for cleaning..

Vinegar and some sort of scrubber intended for acrylic. Mr Clean magic erasers work great on acrylic and do not scratch.

they actually make cleaning vinegar, i run it through the coffee maker when it gets slow...its called company- Allen's double strength cleaning vinegar
its just pure white vinegar

+1, i also used the Mr clean magic eraser, and it worked great on the saltwater residue and what not. Make sure you get the normal one with no suds/soaps.
