The advantage of a Beanimal over a Herbie is that a Beanimal never has to be adjusted. I have a Herbie, and I sometimes have to slightly adjust the gate valve to get it running totally silent again. With a Beanimal, that doesn't happen.
If you do a coast-to-coast overflow, you have PLENTY of room for the extra standpipe, so it's a no-brainer at that point. A coast-to-coast overflow has advantages of its own, too.
