240 Setup

I'm looking at either one Azul or one/two Kelberi for my 240.

Filtration:
Three drain holes that drain into a 55 gallon sump(scrubbies, etc). Mag Drive 1800 return pump into a under gravel jet system (keep the gravel less crap filled). Koralia on both sides of tank. Fluval FX5 when I can. AC500 filtering the sump.

Gravel substrate. Some driftwood. Low lighting.

Will that work?

I want the fish to be majorly comfortable. I might add a catfish (jurunese or the like).

I think it depends on the footprint of the tank. Is it an 8'x2'? Although I know azuls get huge in the wild, i've never seen one in captivity bigger than 24" (but that may be due to the fact that i've only been keeping cichla for less than a year). I'm sure you've heard that Kelberis and intermedia are the smallest of the cichla.

In my opinion, the kelberi should be fine in that set up for life. I think an azul would require atleast a 2.5-3' deep tank. Just my opinion.

It's roughly 6x3x2.

I was pretty sure the Kelberi would be ok since they are so small but I had never heard an exact size on Azuls.

that tank should be perfect for a couple(2 maybe 3) pbass for life. lots of people would prob disagree with me but you dont need a 500 gal to keep pbass for life.
dont get me wrong they would love a bigger tank but growing a bass out 14+'' is not an easy task and it takes a long time . just make sure you have a good pump to turn over the water properly.
i have a 220 6'x2'x28'' with a 15'' temensis and a 14'' azul and i plan on getting a pinima soon 11'' im going to keep em in there untill they cant turn around lol.
the bass dont seem to care that their in a 220 not a 500gal+ as long as their feed every day and the water is circulated good with my mag24.
