My 240 (8x2x2) will be getting set up soon. I will be moving my florida gar into it from my 125. Just kicking around the idea of what to add, here is what I am thinking.

-Clown Knife
-Pbass (mono or orino)
-Silver or Blk Arowana
-Juruense Catfish
-Rectic or motoro ray
-Possibly another fl. gar.

Filtration will be an eshopps 300 model sump and an fx5.

Likes/dislikes, thoughts?
I also like ca/sa cichlids, and was thinking a Jag, but I don't know if that would work with this set up.

I like the rays. You should probably have some rays one the bottom some p-bass in the middle and then a silver or black aro on the top

the gar and arowana may have issues with each other....the knifefish will need hiding spots, the jur will eat anything it can get in its mouth and so will the pbass.

I have an 8 inch alligator gar and an 8 inch silver arowana, the arowana actually got the best of the gar and the gar now has 1 eye...i seperated them after this happened...my pbass is an eating machine...and my knifefish gets along fine with everyone in the tank with him.

A clown knife generally would work with a gar. In some cases the individual clown knife might be too aggressive.
Pbass are not recomended with gar. There is the potential for the bass to spook the gar, which can lead to a broken back.
As has already been stated gar/aro combos can turn bad.
I wouldn't trust a juruense catfish. Couple years back I lost a gar to a same sized jur.
I have not had luck with adding a ray with my gars. The gars have always ended up nipping the ray.

More floridas would be great tankmates for your existing florida gar.

-Clown Knife -no, grows to 3' plus
-Pbass (mono or orino) - will be cramped with only 2' of width
-Silver or Blk Arowana- - will be cramped with only 2' of width
-Juruense Catfish - - will be cramped with only 2' of width
-Rectic or motoro ray - will be cramped with only 2' of width
-Possibly another fl. gar. will be cramped with only 2' of width

If you plan on keeping these guys into adulthood, your tank is not wide enough to keep most of the fish you referenced. Unless you plan on upgrading again to something that is 3' wide, I would stay away from the Pbass, Aros, Juruense, Rays and any more gars. I would go with CA/SA cichlids instead, since most would be fine for life in your 240G.

Peacock Bass ocellaris spangled if you can find them.

Too bad we all can't have sweet tanks like your monster. Then again my next tank will be bigger

I think a lot of what you're going to get is too common, but that's just my opinion. Its too easy to find a silver aro, mono pbass and clown knife. Instead of a silver aro, I'd get a leichardtI if I could find one, a kelberi or xingu instead of a mono, and a royal ck instead of a regular one. Or instead of any ck, I'd get a big thinbar dat or some nice geos.

You spent all that money on a tank, you might a well stock it with some rate fish too. Thats what I would do with a 240.
