24gal planted nanocube build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I just might steal that idea one day ... :grinno:

A few updates:

-The tank went through a mini-cycle when I added the substrate. This may have been caused by the rapid drop in PH (went from 7 to 5). Every thing is stable now although my KH was nearly 0 at first so I added a big chunk of fossilized coral with plants attached to raise it up a little bit.

-The PH drop also wreaked havoc on my crypts - they disentigrated into almost nothing. However now most of them seem to be recovering and growing back. All the other plants are fine.

-As soon as the tank was cycled I added 12 neons and ~15 to 20 RCS. They've been in there for a week and are doing great.

- I also ran DIY CO2 (single bottle for now) with the output going to the powerhead intake. Not quite ideal, and I'll probably rig up a glass diffuser or a reactor later on.

-Still waiting on more plants and driftwood, so I'll post pics when they come in.

UPDATE:

Finally moved the driftwood in after soaking it for ~3 weeks. I had to remove the big stepped rock formation to get the driftwood to fit, and I think the tank looks much roomier without it. So basically I had to re-scape the entire tank, but I'm quite happy with the result.

I also added 2 oto cats to help combat algae.

To get the driftwood stump to stand up in the tank, I simply sawed the bottom off to make a flat surface.

Next I plan on adding some more mid/fore-ground plants as well as some ground cover (most likely dwarf hair grass and/or HC).
