250g design/plan (Uaru, G-cats and Eels)

Well none of this is happening. The guy with the tank sold it put from under me. Had a big snow/wind storm and couldn't pick it up the day we originally planned for, so we arranged to pick it up a week later but he just returned my deposit and told me he sold it. Didn't give any indication he planned to do that or give me a chance to figure out a way to get it sooner, just did it without asking. On top of that the storm knocked out our power for two days and over half the fish I had in quarantine died. So it must be a sign. I don't think I'll be doing fish keeping anytime soon. I'll never find a tank like that again in my price range, and all the fish I actually want to keep require a big tank, so there's no point. Pretty bummed though.

So sorry to hear that. Keep an eye on CL and FB marketplace, deals pop up from time to time, you could get lucky.

Bummer. Hopefully another will turn up in time.

I consider myself fortunate to have been raised around tanks. My mother was an avid aquarist, both keeper and breeder (of kids-6, and of fish), with lots of tanks, cement enclosures and the like. Despite interruptions (at times for several years), I have had fish all my life (over 6 decades).
By the way, Paraguayan Oscars may not be best in same tank as Uaru (both species) which prefer warmer water.

Yeah unfortunately I'm not hopeful. I kept fish for probably close to 10 years before I left the hobby, and I looked for tanks all the time and never found one even close to like this in my price range. Also, I don't think I could do a glass tank because I don't really have a big group of guy friends I could get to move it. I need to be able to move it with two to three people at the most and glass tanks that are bigger take so many more people. Furthermore we now live in an old house with narrow doors and the only way I could fit a large tank like this is if it was a wide like this one and wasn't tall.

Yeah I'm not sure if you read the whole thread but I was pretty much planning to either do Uaru in the big tank OR the Crassipinnis, and potentially do a smaller biotope for whichever species didn't go in the big tank. I already put my 90 gallon tank up for a quarantine for the 250g, so maybe I'll decide to throw something in there, but all the fish I'm really interested in keeping requires something bigger and I don't really feel like going to the work, time and money to upkeep a tank that isn't really the one I want. Maybe I'll put something in there for the kids, but in the end I'm the one who has to take care of it. Could potentially do one of the biotopes starting with juveniles and hoping I'll find a bigger tank, but in my experience it's best not to buy fish you're not ready to house long-term. I'm especially bummed because my lfs actually has the giraffe cat in the species I was looking for right now. But definitely can't get him anymore.
