25gal what to do?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Madarins will not do well in a small tank. They will eat other things, but mainly they LIVE off of copepods and other stuff in your rock. You need old, established LR, in LARGE quantities, in a LARGE tank (125g have starved mandarins before) You should also have a sump or fuge to help colonize more food for them.

Lots of fish will fit in a tank that size. I have a buddy that has a 10g salt with crushed coral and some LR from one of my tanks, he just keeps softies in there and a couple damsels. Thing looks great pretty low maitenence as well.

That being said another cool fish that can live in smaller tanks are scorpionfish. You can keep these guys in a 30 because they dont move around too much, worth looking into.

The only ones I wouldnt recomend with the others would be the Basslet and the hawkfish as they are more agressive. Though that being said, more then one blenny in a tank this size or even a blenny and a goby, mite not be the best idea as they can become territorial as they both tend to find a hiding place on the bottom, and like room to forage for food.

got me a new stand for my tank today right now im working on a list of things i need and one thing i dont know what to get and thats for filtration? could i use something like AquaC Remora or go for a sump? which would be best for a heavy bio load.

Both would be best for a VERY heavy bioload. AquaC makes a skimmer that is designed to be put into a wet/dry or a sump filtration system.

Do some research on marine aquaria...read about berlin systems (thats filtration with only a protein skimmer like I do) and just "standard" sumped systems. Then just do whatever works best for you.

woo hoo got my tank up and running now my new light comes tomorrow i dont have any rock in it yet other then sand i hope to get some live rock in a week or so. now comes what to put in it? im looking at a fuzzy dwarf lionfish since i always wanted a lionfish but what could live with one? im may also just go with a peaceful tank instead. hope everything else goes more smoothly i some how burnout my sump pump on the first day?

dwarth lions idealy need a 30g but 25 is easily a nuff to house one tank mates youve got to choose carfaly as lions are venomouse and its only a 25g there are a few tank mates you could do but youve got to have good filterasion and keep up with heavy maintanance as it will be a very large bioload
option 1
1 fuzzy lion
1 wartskin angler
1 lepard puffer (yes guys rated for 30g it could be done with good filterasion)
option 2
1 dwarth fuzzy
1 flame angel
there are many off options just read and read and keep up with maintanance
check this site out any fish rated for 30g aquariums and is no smaller than 4" is sutable

I actually agree...Filtered correctly, both of these could be done. Well done monsterberry. Cheers. :D

thanks for agreing fleshy i would stay away from mandarins they are stunning fish and have been kept in eaven 10g long term but its a constant battle in a 25g i wouldnt keep one in any less than a 50g they dont get big but their food requirements are very picky and hard to meet especialy in a 25g and their not recomended for newbies to saltwater or unmature aquariums im not eaven going into the food requirments as they all ready have been mentioned in the above posts
the options that i posted were good but have you considerd skipping the lion and going small community you could keep way more fish and they have stunning coloures you could eaven mix in a few more aggressive fish such as damsiles (yellow tail)
