Awesome tarantulas!!! The Aphonopelma hentzi is also called the Oklahoma brown. We have two and they are so sweet, they are hubby's favorite. Now you need a Aphonopelma anax (Texas Brown Tarantula).
I wish we were getting the P. metallicas. We have a friend that might have a egg sac soon. If it is successfully we will pick up a few. How readily available are they over they by you. Here they are usually hard to come by and often $125 a sling.
Thanks for the comments guys&girls! To answer some q's: I have previously purchased two Brachypelma vagans. Unfortantely, they died about an hour after arriving. No death curl or nothing, and they were half dead coming out of the box, so I'm guessing they got bashed around or something. Saying that, the rest of the order I got from the same seller, later died out of the blue, so we don't use that seller anymore.
Everything we get now comes from Lee (www.thespidershop.co.uk) now, and I've had no DOA's, I've only had one or two problems with the order and he's quickly replaced it. He couldn't send the P. ornatas with this order, hence the freebies! Unfortantely haven't seen any B. vagans for sale with Lee, but they are on the list.
Dava, I reccomend Lee fully over any other UK supplier. The reason we've spent about a grand with him so far. I couldn't imagine having another supplier.
I'm not too fussed with Pterinochilus murinus if I'm honest, theres a lot more species I'd rather have, such as the P metallica.
Kat, P metallicas aren't really available in the UK. Mine are coming from Germany. Re: A hentzi, I'm aware they are being more commonly called Oklahoma Browns nowadays, but when I was first introduced to the species, they're common name was always Texas Brown, and thats how I'll always remember them. Not that I wish to debate over common names, as they really mean jack **** in the Tarantula hobby. B. smithi, B. boehmei and B. emilia all often get labelled 'Mexican Red Leg' in society, which is a perfect example of why common names mean nout to me, and I only care for scientific names. The purpose of using a common name at all with the pictures, was so perhaps those a little less Tarantula savvy could relate too.
A. anax (more now commonly called Texas Tan's) are nice T's, but they are too variable for my liking. Perhaps if I got to pick out of a load of adults. I'd want the 'dullest' sandy coloured one possible. I must be crazy haha.
Boyf certainly does know the way to my heart, by big hairy scary T's He's already on about the next shipment The camera is Fujifinepix s1000fd Thanks Chlo, you know I will eventually get you into T's
