27 YEAR OLD IRIDESCENT SHARK????

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
125 longs are 18" by 18" by 72" right? If so, that 20" fish looks more like about 12".

smaller space= slower growth...

Correction

smaller space = quicker death

When you say "slower growth", you make it sound like the fish adapts to the size of the tank which is the #1 Myth of all time.

okay so would you try this on a 2'' RTC in a 20g and get back to us in a year to confirm that comment is more likely to be true than a myth.

I don't believe in that theory myself as I've seen whoppers in 20g-30g-55g-75g- from very cute little weeny fish to a monster fish because they thought it'll stay small forever.
the pheromone theory can possibly exist, this is a general article that provides some info about pheromones in carp. it doesnt state of pheromone that slows growth, but it will give you a general fell for the effects they can have. such as the idea of primer effects, which are developmental changes.

but with the pheromone effect i believe we are talking about a relative small difference in over all size, like only getting 90% of the overall length.

also different fish have different phermones so some species may not be effected at all. i think this theories anecdotal evidence is predominately based in discus.

this fish in the tank if it is that old is probably stunted from poor food and water quality. stunting probably can massively reduce the end size of a fish.

I thought my ID was old. I was going to approach Guiness. HE is not the biggest in captivity, thought he was the oldest. I have had him 17 years, he was about 10" when I bought him, so I fugure he is about 20yrs old, 30" long. I had him in a custom made 100 gallon for 13 years. He is currently in a 200 gallon pond and still growing at 30". I also have a baby ID that is three years old, bought at an inch long, that is currently 7", in the custom tank. He is to small for the pond. They dont stop growing, they change how they grow. Taller, back arching, wider.
