270 not complete but set up

Going by the dimensions you have given (96" x 36" x 30"), your aquarium is a 450 gallon not a 270. Just so you know. :D

I've been thinking of building a twin-window tank, but was worried about how it would look. I'm happy to see one built that way, I dig the look!

Can't wait to see it finished.

well thats the outside dimensions, the inside of the tank itself is a tad smaller. If I dont leave a 4" gap from the top it would be somewhere in the mid upper 300 gallons. Still scares me filling it up though, never had a tank this big before.

Laying out the tile to get the look I want. I think I will stick with the dark tile on the bottom ledge, and make 2 lines going down with em to. The rest will be granite squares. The middle my mind got wondering since I have some 1/2"x1/2" tile sheets laying around, if It would look alright having the complete middle of those tile instead of granite... Any ideas, or a plain dont put that **** in the middle is fine to :)

Semi layout, tiles stuck on the middle with tape to give me a idea

Tile I am pondering putting in the middle, but not sure it would look good

I like the idea of using the tile, however you want to be careful with the different colors and finishes you use, to many opposing will make it look cheap. I would try to stay with maybe one or at the most two different shades, and for sure only one finish. There is another tank that i saw that makes me think of this, you should look at it. I dont know how to post a link so try to find it I think its the 206 gallon plywood build in the diy section.

cool idea though.

x2 Personally, I'd go with one of the two gray's, it provides a better contrast to the wood. Nicely done tho.

so you guys saying no to the granite? I have some slate tiles at my parents house, 12x12 so less lines. Would that look better than the granite 4x4's?

is it a matter of using what you have lying around???
If it is I totally understand, however if it isn't then I personally would go and look for a dark natural slate tile and only use that, up in canada you can usually find natural slate tile for around 2.50 per sq ft. use a dark grout and your golden. any who good luck

Well I wouldnt mind using what I got on hand. Iv got about 30sqft or more of slate tile not being used. If you think all slate would look sweet, then all slate it will be.
