I use an ac110 as a sump, whole gallon of extra capacity lol.

Do it, my sump adds 60 gallons of extra water to my tank. I used to have 3x AC 110 on my 120 gallon, then turn the 120 gallon into the sump n ditched the AC 110s, couldnt b happier. 35 lbs of bio media, n takes 5 mins to change filter socks during water changes
Im probably going to try some sort of sump filtration or almost like cascade filter for my goldfish when i get a large tank for them
