......
I Just bought a 28" marble catfish from a LFS.

The store owner was very nice, and had had the fish for a very long time in a 375 with huge pacu. The problem is he used a fishing net with large rough holes to get him out of the 375. its all he had i guess that was big enough... Before I had the chance to really stop him he had already did the deed. Needless to say he ripped his fins to **** like really bad. He's like bloody bruised around his mouth and ripped some of his fins really bad, like to the point that his bone? is showing... I put him in my 220 (for now), And treated the tank with melafix as well as adding a large amount of stresscoat.

Will someone chime in and tell me there experience with fish healing up, like how long it will take for it to heal some nasty rips ect... My water quality is top notch >1ppm ammonia 0 nitrite.

I know I have to give it time to heal (obviously) but am I looking at weeks? or months?

I will post pics when he looks as good as when I purchased him :(

Melafex works good for healing, i think thats how u say it, also it will take a cupple weeks to heal , would love to see some pics of him, my fravioute catfish :)
Dav.

I told you to stop worrying. Hes gonna be fine.

I'd watch him closely with the melafix, I've heard bad things about it being used with catfish. But once he's all healed you should def. post lots of pix, I love those catfish.

Be careful with the meds catfish are pretty sensitive to those things.

I don't use meds on my cats. My hybrid when I first got him at 18", he was completely covered in ick. As well as my niger cat was moved the exact same way as your marbled pim was. He was so tangled in the bass net that we had to cut it off of him and the result was hard to look at as his fins were terribly ripped. For both cats I just raised the temp a little and added a little aquarium salt. Both healed up just fine. The fins repair themselves pretty quickly so it shouldn't be long.

Should heal fine but there may be a little scarring.
Obviuosly just keep an eye out for any fungal Infections.
My 22" RTC/TSN recently scrapped up one whole flank real bad on some stone piping I placed in the tank...4 weeks later almost completley healed.
Some equilibrium salt may also be beneficial to help the fish heal & deal with any stress caused by regualting its internal salt balance.
Best thing for moving ANY big Cats is something called a Koi sock although allot of IF's dont nessacirily have the experience of dealing with Huge Cats & will use standard nets :(

Seriously thanks everyone for the constructive responses. Really helps :) ill do a huge water change tommorow to dilute the concentration of melafix, and ill add just a little aquarium salt, and wait.

I will have pictures up asap
