I Just bought a 28" marble catfish from a LFS.

The store owner was very nice, and had had the fish for a very long time in a 375 with huge pacu. The problem is he used a fishing net with large rough holes to get him out of the 375. its all he had i guess that was big enough... Before I had the chance to really stop him he had already did the deed. Needless to say he ripped his fins to **** like really bad. He's like bloody bruised around his mouth and ripped some of his fins really bad, like to the point that his bone? is showing... I put him in my 220 (for now), And treated the tank with melafix as well as adding a large amount of stresscoat.

Will someone chime in and tell me there experience with fish healing up, like how long it will take for it to heal some nasty rips ect... My water quality is top notch >1ppm ammonia 0 nitrite.

I know I have to give it time to heal (obviously) but am I looking at weeks? or months?

I will post pics when he looks as good as when I purchased him :(

and u said the owner was really nice??? nice to you but not the fish!

Yah he was really nice but obviously retarded. It was a pet store from out of my area that we drove over an hour to visit. I honest to god have no idea what he was thinking but all i wish i had done was stop him from using the net. idk it was a bad moment for me.

But good news its after 2x 200gal water changes, and slight treatment with aqua salt he is recovering fairly well. I will have pictures up soon but he is going to my friend witha 300 that is better suited for him for now until my pond is ready.

pics TOMMOROW :) promise*

Edit: if i feel up to it after my overnight shift lol
