Iv got a pond made from a horse watering trough and i took sum measurements to find volume and convert it too gallons and it turns out it is about 280 gallons. =) I live in FL so the weather here will be fine temp wise.
I have 2 young Occels in my 120 galklon to grow out and i was wondering if they would be fiine for life in the 280 gallon pond.
wat do you all think?
ill take pics real quick n post em up of the fish and the pond.

Depends on how far north Florida. I don't think pbass can live much farther north than Miami. Otherwise that pond would be alright for a while but not necessarily forever

i was actually thinking about doing the same thing as far as the pond goes but i would need to keep it heated. the tractor supply place around here has a 10 foot diameter "trough" and its galvanized steel so i wondered if it could house fish.(dont need the metals getting into the water etc). whats that one made out of?

I think it's big enough for the fish, but without any heat it's true they probably won't do well much farther North than Miami. They still may need some even that far south since it isn't really heated by the earth like the canals are.

Heating an open to pond anywhere else to 85-90* will cost a lot.

Mynes galvanised steel as well but it has been runing for yrs with small koi that have died out. I live about 10 min from Miami, still think it needs to be heated???
I hope not i beleiev these two are a pair and i would love to breen them one day.

It would probably work.. The pbass will be fine in the 120g for a while... Keep a thermometer in the pond next summer and check it on cold nights and see how low it gets.
