Thanks. I have 3 oto's now but am considering buying a couple more. You mention the brown algae will go away...so does this mean I should sit tight for a while? I don't want to get more otos and have a shortage of "food" for them.

Also, as mentioned before, is the java fern propogation a sign that my tank environment is not ready to support these plants? I'm going to start using the seachem carbon fert again but have a feeling I will need other fertilizer to get them going.

I might move the java ferns to a 15 gallon guppy tank I have, to see if the other plant takes off.

soooo much to learn... :nilly:

Yes, when the diatoms have depleted the silicates, they will start to disappear.

As for the java ferns, they are doing just fine. Has nothingto do with the tank environment. In fact, it could mean conditions are too good. Mine are doing the same thing, they look healthy and are giving off lots of little plantlets.

so whats the trick to prevent/minimize propogation and grow leaves instead?

Just seems weird that most pics I see are big java ferns with little or no propogating plants on the leaves. I want to fill that end of the tank with big leaves so my fish have security cover
